TALKEETNA, Alaska (AP) - Officials say a Japanese climber has been rescued after being stranded on an Alaska mountain.

A Denali National Park contracted helicopter plucked the mountaineer from Mount Hunter Sunday.

The park says in a release that 42-year-old Masatoshi Kuriaki of Fukuoka, Japan, was uninjured but requested emergency help. He was on a solo expedition with a few days of food and water left.

With avalanche danger high, the chopper reached Kuriaki at the 8,600-foot level of the 14,573-foot mountain.

The park described Kuriaki as very experienced in solo winter expeditions in Denali Park.
