LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) - Police say a man who set a small fire while refusing to come out of his central Pennsylvania apartment has been arrested and sent for a mental evaluation.

Authorities didn’t immediately release the name of the suspect in the eight-hour standoff in West Lampeter Township. That’s near Lancaster.

Police say the standoff began about 6 p.m. Sunday with a call that the man was threatening to harm himself.

Authorities say the man poured a flammable liquid in his apartment and refused to come out while threatening to set a fire.

Eventually, the man did set a small fire which was quickly extinguished as police say the man surrendered shortly before 2 a.m. Monday.

Police say others in the man’s apartment got out safely.
