ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Members of environmental groups plan to rally at the state Capitol as they continue efforts to stop construction of a 124-mile natural gas pipeline from Pennsylvania to eastern New York.
Opponents of the Constitution Pipeline want the Cuomo administration to deny a water quality permit for the project. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approval of the project in 2014 was contingent on the state permit.
On Tuesday, pipeline opponents including some landowners in its path plan to march from the state Capitol to the headquarters of the Department of Environmental Conservation. The agency is expected to decide by the end of April whether to approve the permit.
The pipeline company says the project will bring low-cost gas to New York and New England and create 1,300 construction jobs.
