BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The death of a man during a shootout in Birmingham last month has been ruled a justifiable homicide by the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.
Citing a statement from Birmingham police, Al.com (https://bit.ly/239ZizW ) reports that the suspects, whose names weren’t released, won’t face criminal charges because they were shooting in self-defense when they killed 23-year-old Lawrence Thomas.
Police spokesman Lt. Sean Edwards says officers who arrived at the scene on the night of Mar. 19 found Thomas lying in the street next to his vehicle with a gunshot wound on his body. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Authorities said that a preliminary investigation revealed the victim got into a shootout with another motorist.
