WOLFEBORO, N.H. (AP) - A teenage kayaker was rescued by members of the state Marine Patrol after her boat capsized on Lake Winnipesaukee over the weekend.
WMUR-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1UP4VCA ) New Hampshire State Police were notified of an overturned kayak near Jockey Cove in Wolfeboro around 11:17 a.m. Sunday.
Officials say two kayakers were in separate vessels when one of the boats capsized due to high winds.
Marine Patrol responded and pulled the 17-year-old female from the 45-degree water. She was transported to Huggins Hospital for treatment of possible hypothermia after reporting that she couldn’t feel her extremities.
An investigation found that neither kayaker was equipped with a personal flotation device. State law requires that all boats, including kayaks, have a personal flotation device for each person on board.
