Vases stolen from headstones at Greenville cemetery

GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Washington County authorities say several vases have been stolen off headstones from Greenlawn Memorial Garden.

Bobby Gordon, named as the receiver of the cemetery in 2013, says 30 to 40 bronze vases have been stolen, at random, from headstones.

Gordon tells The Delta Democrat-Times (https://bit.ly/1ZZ35xV) it can cost an upward of $300 to replace an individual vase.

Rob Mortimer, co-owner of Mortimer Funeral Home, said a law passed about a decade ago putting regulations on scrap metal, which includes bronze vases.

According to the law, businesses that accept metal cannot accept bronze vases from cemeteries without certain documents.
