RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - The Lakota Language Consortium met in Rapid City as part of a continuing effort to revitalize the Lakota language.

KOTA television reports (https://bit.ly/1RMqiOx ) that hundreds of people showed up to learn Lakota at the Hilton Garden Inn last weekend.

The consortium held classes for beginners, intermediates and fluent speakers. Bino Garcia says the courses are very interactive, and students don’t just sit and take notes.

The weekend marked the third Lakota Language Weekend in South Dakota since the fall, but it’s the first time it has been held in Rapid City. Organizers say the meetings drew a greater than expected turnout, so they home to return to Rapid City in the near future.
