FERNLEY, Nev. (AP) - People impacted by a 2008 flood will be compensated under a class-action lawsuit settlement.

A lawyer representing those affected by the 2008 Truckee Canal flood said in a Tuesday statement that U.S. District and Nevada District courts approved the settlement.

The Truckee Carson Irrigation District paid more than $18 million. Funds will go toward victims after attorney fees and litigation costs are paid.

A 40-foot section of the canal that ran through Fernley collapsed and caused the flood.

About 580 homes were impacted.
