LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Three professors who teach math, chemistry and journalism are being honored as the best this year in Michigan.

Each of the state’s 15 public universities was invited to nominate someone for the Michigan Distinguished Professor of the Year award. For 10 years, the award has recognized professors who teach undergraduates.

The winners are math professor Matthew Boelkins of Grand Valley State University, chemistry professor Brian Coppola of the University of Michigan and communications professor Sue Ellen Christian of Western Michigan University.

Daniel Hurley, chief executive of the Michigan Association of State Universities, says the three “represent the very best of teaching, innovation and dedication to student success.”

They’ll be honored April 15 at a lunch in Lansing.
