ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - An Anchorage man convicted of armed robbery with a stolen assault rifle was sentenced Tuesday in federal court to 10 years and six months in prison.
Twenty-eight-year-old Miguel Batista pleaded guilty Jan. 26 to interference with commerce by robbery and brandishing a gun during a violent crime.
Federal prosecutors say Batista in April and May 2015 stole nine assault rifles from the Walmart in Eagle River.
On May 20, he carried one in liquor store robbery.
Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Erin Bennett in a release says Batista pointed the gun at several people in the store, made a cashier give him money from registers, pointed the gun at another employee outside and took the employee’s cellphone and car.
He was arrested several hours after the robbery.
