SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Democratic state Sen. Jim Dabakis says he is part of a group of five people who want to make a run at buying The Salt Lake Tribune.
The Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1Wdf4If ) that Dabakis declined to name the others, but said they are prominent, civic-minded community leaders.
Dabakis has been outspoken about his fears that renegotiated terms of a long standing joint operating agreement between the Tribune and Deseret News could lead to the demise of the Tribune.
The altered deal, announced in 2013, slashed the Tribune’s share of joint operating revenues from 58 percent to 30 percent.
A group of former Tribune staffers is suing over the agreement, alleging the new terms violate antitrust laws and undermines the Tribune’s independent voice.
Wealthy industrialist Jon Huntsman Sr. has also expressed interest in buying the Tribune.
