DENVER (AP) - A Denver police officer accused of brawling with a co-worker at a cookout in Aurora will be suspended for 90 days for lying to investigators about being drunk.

The Denver Post reports (https://goo.gl/u4ucgl ) Jeremy Ownbey narrowly avoided being fired for the 2014 brawl. He signed an agreement with the police department acknowledging that he would be fired if he gets in any more trouble during the next two years.

Investigators say Ownbey and a detective began brawling after their wives were involved in a physical confrontation. The officers acknowledged that they and their wives trade sex partners, but they denied that sex sparked the brawl.

Ownbey kept his job because he had only three minor disciplinary actions during his 10-year career and had received three commendations.

Sean Olson, Ownbey’s attorney, declined to comment about the case.
