PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix residents and city leaders have long sought a downtown grocery store and plans are finally in the works by Fry’s Food Stores.
The Arizona Republic reports (https://bit.ly/1V9CUVO ) that Fry’s and RED Development announced a proposed mixed-use development Tuesday that would bring a 55,000-square-foot grocery store to the city center. Mayor Greg Stanton says a full-service grocery store could be a catalyst for downtown growth.
RED Development is the company behind CityScape, two city blocks of stores, restaurants and offices across from the proposed grocery store site.
RED Vice President of Development Jeff Moloznik says he anticipates the grocery store opening in 2018.
RED Development and Fry’s say they will provide more details in the near future.
