HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - A Hattiesburg Public School District board member has resigned.

District spokeswoman Jas N. Smith says board member Mary Williams resigned Tuesday after serving for six years.

WDAM-TV (https://bit.ly/1UWNv6T ) reports Williams said one reason she decided to leave is because she feels she’s given all she can to the district.

Williams said with all of the current struggles facing the district, the community needs to be involved more than ever.

Williams says she was not sure when her position will be filled, but hopes it will be done quickly to ensure a smooth transition. She also said she hopes her successor speaks his or her mind.
