FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - A Colorado city is considering a regulation that would hold party hosts legally liable for underage marijuana and alcohol use.

The Coloradoan reports (https://noconow.co/1UWfOlZ ) that a preliminary vote by the Fort Collins City Council was 6-1 in favor of the rule. Councilmember Ray Martinez voted in opposition, saying police already have the tools they need to deal with nuisance parties.

Other council members say a gap in current city regulations allows party hosts to avoid responsibility for what happens in their homes. The proposal allows police to ticket someone with legal control of the location of underage consumption or possession of alcohol or marijuana if that person is present at the time.

The measure includes exceptions, such as underage consumption for religious purposes or at home with parental permission.
