BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The Senate and Governmental Affairs Committee narrowly rejected a bill aimed at protecting Confederate monuments around Louisiana from removal. The 5-4 vote against the proposal by Sen. Beth Mizell, a Republican from Franklinton, killed the bill. Here’s how senators on the committee voted:

VOTING FOR THE BILL: Sens. Jack Donahue, R-Mandeville; Jim Fannin, R-Jonesboro; Neil Riser, R-Columbia; and Mike Walsworth, R-West Monroe.

VOTING AGAINST THE BILL: Sens. Wesley Bishop, D-New Orleans; Troy Carter, D-New Orleans; J.P. Morrell, D-New Orleans; Greg Tarver, D-Shreveport; and Karen Carter Peterson, D-New Orleans.
