EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - A Lynnwood man has been found guilty of attempted murder for allegedly beating his ex-wife and setting her on fire inside their home.
The Daily Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1SP4ioA ) that 46-year-old David Morgan was convicted Tuesday of attempted murder, assault and arson. He faces decades in prison when he’s sentenced next week.
Prosecutors say Morgan beat Brenda Welch and set her on fire so he didn’t have to pay her child support or part of his pension.
Morgan has denied the allegations and told police he awoke to someone hitting him in the head and found Welch on fire. He says he tried to extinguish the flames.
Welch, who suffered a fractured skull and burns, says she has no memory of the attack.
Morgan’s attorneys say he plans to appeal.
