WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Wilmington Police have charged a man with drug and traffic offenses after, they say, he led officers on a vehicle chase.

The department said in an email that officers pulled over a car late Tuesday. Police say the driver sped off when officers got out of their cruiser.

Authorities say the driver hit another car and the fleeing vehicle stopped. Police say the driver got out of the car through the passenger side window, but he was quickly taken into custody.

Officers say a search of the car turned up 740 bags of heroin.

Thirty-year-old Kenneth Swanson of Wilmington was charged with resisting arrest and several other offenses.
