JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - House and Senate negotiators will try reaching a compromise on an Alaska marijuana bill.
Reps. Cathy Tilton, Charisse Millett and Harriet Drummond and Sens. Click Bishop, Lesil McGuire and Lyman Hoffman were named to the conference committee.
The Senate version of HB 75 incorporates provisions sought by the Marijuana Control Board to allow for national background checks for marijuana business applicants. A law passed last year prohibits the issuance of licenses to individuals who have had felony convictions within five years of their application or are on probation or parole for that felony. The board is currently accepting applications.
The Senate version would prohibit pot businesses from operating in unincorporated areas, which a sponsor of the initiative legalizing recreational marijuana has called problematic. It would let established villages opt in.
