PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A high school student’s tweet that the administration was “asking to be the next Columbine” has earned him a suspension.

Superintendent Sanford Prince said an adult education student told a teacher about the tweet Tuesday evening. The Portland Press Herald (https://bit.ly/1PUw9PA ) reports that the teacher notified the superintendent and police.

The 1999 shooting at Columbine High School left 13 dead.

Prince says staff has been trained to move quickly when there’s a potential threat. The student was not charged, but police are forwarding their report of the incident to the district attorney.
