TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Police say a 2-year-old girl was found wandering on a roadway in west Alabama after her father had been arrested several hours earlier.
Tuscaloosa Police Lt. Teena Richardson tells local news media that the toddler was found Wednesday morning while in search of her father Freelin Joe Burnett. The 25-year-old Burnett was arrested Tuesday night on a charge of public intoxication.
Richardson says the toddler was found after officers responded to a report of a child wandering around on a sidewalk. Burnett did not inform police he had a child due to his intoxicated state.
Richardson says the toddler was hungry, but unharmed when found. The toddler’s mother has been located.
Burnett is being held at the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $300 bond. It’s not clear whether Burnett has an attorney.
