CHAMBLEE, Ga. (AP) - Authorities in DeKalb County say a 3-year-old girl died after she was hit by an SUV.

Local media report the girl was hit when she walked into the parking lot outside her apartment on Buford Highway in Chamblee around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Assistant Police Chief Michael Beller of the Chamblee Police Department says it appears the driver may not have seen the girl as the SUV came over a hill.

The girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police told WSB-TV that the driver waited for police to arrive and was cooperative. No charges were immediately filed.
