NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Four brothers who received stiff sentences in a sweeping federal drug and weapons case that encompassed a mass shooting at a New Orleans Mother’s Day parade are planning appeals.
Twenty-two-year-old Akein (ah-KEEN’) Scott was sentenced to life in the case; 27-year-old Shawn Scott, to 40 years. Both were implicated in the 2013 neighborhood parade shooting that injured 20 people.
Also sentenced for related crimes in the federal case were 31-year-old Travis Scott, who drew life in prison, and Stanley Scott, who got 40 years.
All four pleaded guilty last year but they filed notices of appeal this week after last week’s sentencing. The appeals will be argued at the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.
