22 CHARGED IN MIAMI DRUG MONEY LAUNDERING OPERATION
Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said Thursday the case is a joint investigation with federal Homeland Security Department officials. Authorities say the undercover operation involved about $1 million a month in drug money from throughout North America.
MAN GETS PROBATION FOR TAKING DAUGHTER, FRIEND TO STRIP CLUB
Jose Manuel Arguelles pleaded no contest Thursday to 10 counts of child abuse, and prosecutors agreed to drop more serious charges of providing drugs to a minor and promoting the sexual performance of a minor.
2 PANTHERS KILLED IN SOUTHWEST FLORIDA
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reports that a 3-year-old male’s body was found Wednesday on Interstate 75 near the Luckett Road exit in Lee County, and then another 3-year-old male was found the same day on Immokalee Road in Collier County. The remains will be taken to a Gainesville facility for a necropsy.
RIVER OF GRASS: SCOTT APPROVES LEGACY FLORIDA LEGISLATION
Gov. Rick Scott on Thursday signed the “Legacy Florida” bill that guarantees money for programs aimed to help the famed River of Grass. The money will come out of a special account associated with a 2014 constitutional amendment approved by Florida voters. The amendment required that money from the state’s documentary stamp tax go to buying conservation land.
COAST GUARD SEARCHING FOR MISSING BOATER OFF PENSACOLA
Family member told the U.S. Coast Guard that James Bradley Gunther left Gulf Shores, Alabama, in a 48-foot boat named Reliant, heading to Port St. Joe, Florida. He hasn’t contacted his family since Saturday. The boat was found anchored near Fort McRee, Florida, which is on the eastern end of Perdido Key.
