LANSING, Mich. (AP) - A panel that advises Michigan’s governor and the Department of Natural Resources on developing and maintaining trails will discuss an update of the state trail plan next week.

The Michigan Trails Advisory Council is scheduled to meet Tuesday at the Ralph A. MacMullan Conference Center in Roscommon.

The council focuses on motorized and non-motorized trails, including those open to snowmobiling, biking, horseback riding, hiking, skiing and off-road vehicles.

In addition to the trail plan, the council will consider effects that trail maintenance activities could have on the spread of oak wilt, a disease that poses a threat to Michigan’s oak trees.

Officials recommend not pruning oaks between mid-April and mid-July, when beetles cause the disease to spread by moving spores from dead trees to healthy ones.
