CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A power outage in Boone County has left thousands without power.

News outlets report that more than 5,000 Appalachian Power customers throughout the county are without service.

Appalachian Power spokesman Phil Moye says two large transmission poles were burnt down and several lines are down across Boone County. He says wildfires in the area may have caused the pole fires.

Crews are currently working to restores service. Moye says restoring power could be a lengthy process.

Several hundred customers in neighboring counties are also without power.
