ATTLEBORO, Mass. (AP) - North Attleborough police have arrested a Boston woman they say fraudulently used checks that were taken from the trash outside the fire-damaged home of a Rhode Island man.
The Sun Chronicle (https://bit.ly/1Sf6tyD ) reports that Robin Griffin pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a larceny charge and was freed on personal recognizance.
Authorities say the 51-year-old Griffin withdrew $4,200 from her account after a check from the victim’s account was deposited at her bank.
The victim, a 31-year-old Warren, Rhode Island, man says his house was heavily damaged by fire in November.
A company he hired for cleanup placed debris from the house, including a plastic container with his checkbook, into a trash bin in his driveway. He found out in January his account had been depleted.
Griffin blamed a family member.
