BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Several Buffalo-area transportation projects are in line for funding under the newly passed New York state budget.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo says $30 million will go to convert the Scajaquada (skuh-JAH-kwuh-duh) Expressway into a low-speed urban boulevard. The project follows the death of a child last year when a car left the expressway and entered an adjacent park.
The budget also includes $22.3 million for an initiative to restore cars to Buffalo’s Main Street. That project reverses the banning of cars to make way for an above-ground rail system, a move that hurt Main Street businesses.
Cuomo discussed the projects during a visit to Buffalo on Wednesday. He also announced $10.5 million for improvements to three western New York state parks: Allegany, Niagara Falls and Midway.
