WASHINGTON (AP) - A Washington police officer has fatally shot a pit bull after authorities say the dog bit a woman and then charged the officer.

Police spokeswoman Alice Kim says officers responded to the scene Wednesday afternoon to investigate a report that a dog had bitten a woman.

Kim says an officer was charged by a pit bull and fired at least once.

Police say the woman was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. A second dog involved in the attack was taken away by animal control.

The incident remains under investigation.
