NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - A northern New Jersey doctor has pleaded not guilty to charges he accepted more than $200,000 in bribes to refer $3 million worth of patient blood tests to a diagnostic laboratory.

Seventy-eight-year-old Bernard Greenspan entered the plea Tuesday. The Saddle Brook physician was indicted on charges of conspiracy, violating the federal anti-kickback law and related offenses.

Prosecutors say Greenspan accepted the bribes between from employees and associates of Biodiagnostic Laboratory Services. He’s also accused of soliciting bribes for the payment of an office holiday party.

Defense attorney Damian Conforti says he plans to file a motion to dismiss the charges.

Thirty-nine people have pleaded guilty in the scheme. Prosecutors say the lab paid $4 million in bribes and got more than $100 million in return from Medicare and private insurers.
