OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A former employee of the Bethany-Warr Acres Public Works Authority has been sentenced to three years and one month in a federal prison for wire and tax fraud.
Federal prosecutors say 61-year-old Helen Rose Dewey of Oklahoma City was sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Oklahoma City after pleading guilty to the charges in November.
Her attorney did not immediately return a phone call Thursday for comment.
Dewey must also pay $974,034 in restitution to the public works authority and $233,674 in restitution to the IRS.
Court records allege that Dewey embezzled from the authority by using its credit cards to make unauthorized purchases. Prosecutors say she also embezzled money from the petty cash fund.
Authorities allege Dewey altered purchase orders to conceal the activity.
