HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) - The former president of a Long Island volunteer ambulance company has admitted to stealing about $1.6 million from the company.
Newsday reports (https://nwsdy.li/1Vzhwbz ) 50-year-old Brad Reiter pleaded guilty to first-degree grand larceny on Wednesday.
The Jackson, New Jersey, man had previously volunteered as president and treasurer of the Bellmore-Merrick EMS. Prosecutors say he took the money over a seven-year period to help pay his credit card and insurance bills, lawn care and security system services.
Defense attorney Samuel Rieff says his client has accepted responsibility for the crime and is looking forward to moving on.
A judge says Reiter faces two to six years behind bars when he’s sentenced on June 29.
