GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) - The Hall County Board of Supervisors has eliminated the township boards of 14 communities in the county.
The Grand Island Independent reports (https://bit.ly/1Wezgtp ) that the board took the unanimous action Tuesday.
All 14 boards have been inactive for more than eight years. No one has run for seats on the township boards and no one would accept appointment.
Hall County election commissioner Dale Baker asked the supervisors to eliminate the township boards because she was required to place empty township ballots before voters every other year, which cost the county money.
The county now may access around $15,600 in leftover township board funds. The money will go to the county Public Works Department because the money originally was collected by the township boards for road maintenance.
