AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The Headliners Foundation of Texas has honored the Houston Chronicle with the 2015 Showcase Gold Award for Enterprise and Innovation in Journalism.
Reporter Brian Rosenthal was recognized Wednesday for his series on how Texas officials use taxpayer funds to help their friends. The series sparked legislative reforms, policy changes and at least one resignation.
Three Showcase Silver Award winners were announced.
The Austin American-Statesman and The Texas Tribune won for stories on workers’ compensation coverage and public prosecutors pursuing alleged crimes.
KRGV-TV in Weslaco was honored for stories on women smuggled into the U.S. and then subjected to slave-like jobs in factories and as prostitutes.
Brooks Egerton of The Dallas Morning News was honored for stories on dental patient deaths.
The Headliners Foundation of Texas is based in Austin.
