ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - The Environmental Health Department’s Air Quality Program has issued a health alert due to blowing dust in the Albuquerque area.
They say high winds may cause elevated levels of particulate matter in Albuquerque’s South Valley on Thursday night.
The alert is in effect until 4 a.m. Friday.
Health officials say blowing dust contributes to particulate pollution.
People who are sensitive to blowing dust - such as those with asthma, chronic bronchitis and other respiratory and heart diseases - are encouraged to limit outdoor activity.
Children and older adults also could be affected by particulate pollution.
Schools and senior citizen facilities may want to provide indoor activities to minimize exposure to elevated outdoor particulate levels.
