PHOENIX (AP) - The University of Arizona has named Dr. Kenneth Ramos as interim dean of its Phoenix medical school.

Ramos replaces Dr. Stuart Flynn, who has been dean since 2008.

Flynn is leaving April 15 to become dean of a new medical school to be operated by Texas Christian University and the University of North Texas Health Science Center.

Ramos will start his new position April 18 at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix.

He will spend four days a week at the Phoenix medical school campus as the university conducts a national search to fill the position on a permanent basis.

The Phoenix medical school opened in 2007 as a branch campus of the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson.

It graduated its first class of 24 doctors in 2011.
