RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Most of the failed legislation during the 2016 Virginia General Assembly’s legislative session died without a recorded vote.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (https://goo.gl/MnqbB8 ) that more than two thirds of the 1,200 pieces of failed legislation died without a recorded vote.

Last year, about half of all unsuccessful pieces of legislation did not receive a recorded vote.

Open government advocates said there should be recorded votes on legislation so that the public can see where their lawmakers stand on particular issues.

The Times-Dispatch said the figures on unrecorded votes were tabulated by the Virginia Public Access Project.
