ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The state’s next adjutant general has taken command of the New York National Guard.

Maj. Gen. Patrick Murphy handed over command to Maj. General Anthony German of Oneonta during a ceremony Thursday at the Division of Military and Naval Affairs headquarters in the Albany suburb of Latham.

A 33-year veteran of the U.S. military, German will be responsible for overseeing the readiness and training of more than 10,000 members of the New York Army National Guard and some 5,600 members in the Air National Guard.

German has been the second-in-command to Murphy, who’s leaving to serve with the National Guard Bureau in Washington, D.C.
