PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - A new fire chief has been appointed in Pascagoula.

Local media outlets report Deputy Chief Donald Carlson was promoted to the position of fire chief on Tuesday.

City Manager Joe Huffman says in a statement that Carlson replaces Robert O’Sullivan, who retired in February.

Carlson has been with the city for 22 years and rose through the ranks as a firefighter, lieutenant, captain and deputy chief.

Carlson says he is most looking forward to bringing together the generations of fire department staff.

Carlson is a native of Illinois and a former U.S. Navy sailor. He has been married to his wife, Pam, for 25 years and they have two children.
