CENTRALIA, Wash. (AP) - The owner of a horse that was rescued after being trapped in mud on the woman’s property in Lewis County has been arrested on animal cruelty charges.

The Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1RZ5l5t ) Jennifer Jenkins was arrested Wednesday. She faces nine counts of cruelty to animals for the nine horses that were seized from her Onalaska property.

Fire crews, sheriff’s deputies and county staff had responded to Jenkins’ home Tuesday to rescue one of the horses that was stuck in mud more than a foot deep. They were able to lift the horse to safety after several hours.

Sheriff’s Capt. Dusty Breen says the rescue led authorities to other horses on the property that were also found in bad health.

Breen says Jenkins complied with law enforcement commands and was arrested without incident.
