EAST PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (AP) - Two people are dead after a fire in a Long Island home.
Suffolk County police say the fire happened in a residence in East Patchogue (PACH’-awg) at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
The two victims were described as residents in their 80s. Neighbors told reporters they tried to enter the home, but heavy flames and smoke prevented a rescue.
Police did not immediately release the identities of the victims.
The flames coming from the home on Swezey Street melted the siding off a neighboring home.
Firefighters from at least seven departments responded to the blaze.
