LAUDERHILL, Fla. (AP) - Police say a 2-year-old boy has died after being pulled from a Lauderhill swimming pool.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports (https://bit.ly/1Mg9dj6 ) that responders were called around 5 p.m. Wednesday to a single-family home, where the child’s father was performing CPR on the boy.

Lauderhill police Maj. Rick Rocco says the toddler had been put down for a nap when he managed to get out of his room, open a sliding door and go into the backyard by himself before ending up in the pool.

He says the parents don’t know how long the child had been in the pool.

The boy was taken to a hospital, where he died. Authorities have not released the child’s identity at this time.
