ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - The woman who was recalled this week as mayor of Alaska’s oil-rich North Slope Borough didn’t address the recall election but wished her successor “the very best in leading us forward.”

Sixty-two percent of North Slope Borough residents Tuesday voted to recall Charlotte Brower. An acting mayor will be named Tuesday.

Spending records indicated that the borough purchased hundreds of thousands of dollars of items from the Brower’s children, including sealskin vests from a daughter for $7,000 each that were presented to the governor and lieutenant governor. The gifts have been returned.

Brower said in an email to Anchorage television station KTUU (https://is.gd/DkgwhT) she didn’t seek office for personal honor or public accolades. But she says she leaves the borough in better shape than what was handed to her when she took office.
