SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - State regulators have tentatively approved the sale of the Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks to Marnell Gaming LLC.

The Las Vegas Sun reports (https://bit.ly/1RZxKIl ) that the Gaming Control Board on Wednesday unanimously approved Marnell Gaming’s planned purchase of the Nugget for an undisclosed sum. The deal still needs final approval from the Nevada Gaming Commission, which is expected later this month.

Marnell Chairman and CEO Anthony Marnell III says they plan to renovate the 75,000-square-foot casino, the 110,000-square-foot convention center and eight restaurants, as well a complete renovation of the 800-room west tower.

The announcement comes days after federal officials announced a $1 million civil penalty against the Nugget’s former owners for violating anti-money laundering requirements.
