ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - The City of St. Paul will pay the family of an elderly woman struck and killed by a police squad $62,500 to settle a wrongful death lawsuit.
One-hundred-one-year-old Roza Sakhina died in 2013 after an officer backed a squad car into her while she was crossing the street outside her apartment. The wrongful death lawsuit claimed the officer was operating the squad in a negligent manner.
The city claimed in court that Sakhina’s injuries were caused by her own negligence. The St. Paul Pioneer Press (https://bit.ly/1oFIlO8 ) says the City Council approved the out-of-court settlement Wednesday without discussion and without admitting liability.
