IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - The Iowa Education Department hasn’t decided whether to take any action against the Iowa City district for the mishandling of some student documents that showed up at a recycling center.

The documents included personal information about the kids and their parents and were found March 19 at City Carton Recycling by an Iowa State student.

The department’s Jim Flansburg told the Iowa City Press-Citizen Wednesday (https://icp-c.com/1WexWGN ) the department’s options include a citation and requiring a corrective action plan. Flansburg says the department’s next steps depend in large part on what actions the district takes.

The Iowa City superintendent, Stephen Murley, says officials will notify families about the situation after the district determines whose information appeared in the Individualized Education Program documents.
