LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Officers of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Police Department have begun using body cameras.
The university said in a news release that commissioned officers of the department started using the cameras at the beginning of the month.
The officers will wear the cameras during routine patrols, special assignments and K-9 operations. Video taken by the cameras are intended to be a resources for prosecutors during court proceedings.
University police public information officer Sgt. Billy Abrams says the cameras will also “protect the integrity” of an officer’s interaction with people.
The university provided funding for the body cameras. The department has had in-car cameras since 2005.
