CLAY, Ala. (AP) - Police say a 38-year-old woman has been fatally shot at a home in central Alabama.

Jefferson County Chief Deputy Randy Christian tells Al.com (https://bit.ly/1qwVlr5 ) that sheriff’s deputies responded to the home around 3:30 p.m. Thursday after a 911 call from a man who said he shot his girlfriend. Christian says there were two small children in the home at the time of the shooting.

Christian says the children were not injured. Christian says the male suspect has been taken into custody.

Christian says the investigation is ongoing. Authorities say there have been prior domestic dispute calls to the home.
