ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - An Arizona man has been arrested in New Mexico after authorities say he had more than 10 pounds of heroin concealed in his luggage.

Federal prosecutors say 24-year-old Jose Andres Ramirez of Phoenix made his initial court appearance Friday in Albuquerque. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer yet.

Ramirez is accused of possessing heroin with intent to distribute.

He remains in federal custody pending a preliminary hearing and a detention hearing scheduled Monday.

Ramirez was arrested Thursday after federal drug agents allegedly found 10.69 pounds of heroin concealed in his luggage at a bus station in Albuquerque.

If convicted of the drug possession charge in the criminal complaint, prosecutors say Ramirez could face a sentence of 10 years to life in prison.
