BROOKLYN, Conn. (AP) - A donation from inmates at the Brooklyn Correctional Institution in eastern Connecticut will help fund a tool used by police officers investigating cases of domestic violence.
The Hartford Courant reports (https://cour.at/1S11ip1 ) officials from the prison will present a $2,000 donation to advocates of domestic violence victims on Friday to help foot the bill for new “best practices” cards.
Correctional counselor Linda Trahan says the cards are like “cheat sheets” that highlight relevant laws and list questions that help officers determine a victim’s level of danger.
An older version of the cards is currently used by police across the state, but they are in need of an update.
The donation money comes from the inmates’ accounts, which they use to purchase snacks and other items at the prison.
